This is a post-1960s AKM Type II bayonet with its matching insulated scabbard, widely believed to have originated in Vietnam due to its distinctive reddish-brown bakelite handle. The blade is unfullered and features a sawback spine with a combination of Bowie-style tip and wire-cutter integration (when paired with the scabbard). The scabbard includes a metal lug and rubber insulator, allowing the bayonet to serve as a live wire cutter—an innovation popular among Warsaw Pact designs. The grip is thermoset plastic (commonly referred to as "bakelite"), and the pommel is blued steel. These bayonets were typically issued to the North Vietnamese Army and Viet Cong during the later stages of the Vietnam War, having been supplied via Soviet and Chinese channels. Their robust construction and multi-functional design made them a practical tool in jungle warfare. The reddish-brown variant is generally considered scarcer and more desirable than the black or orange versions due to limited production runs and regional issue.
