An original SADF Service and Pay Book cover (form reference DD1346), produced from the early 1970s through to the early 1990s. Made of green vinyl with the South African coat of arms and bilingual gilt lettering in both Afrikaans (Republiek van Suid-Afrika / S.A. Weermag / Diens-en Soldyboek) and English (Republic of South Africa / S.A. Defence Force / Service and Pay Book). These covers were issued to protect the soldier’s pay book, an essential document recording service details, medical information, next of kin, and payment records. Used by conscripts and permanent force members alike during the height of the Border War, they are iconic of SADF administration.
