An original Rhodesian Central African Command formation patch, featuring the iconic three crossed assegai spears motif embroidered in white on a dark green or khaki background. This insignia represents one of the most historically significant formations within the Rhodesian and Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland Armed Forces, symbolising unity, strength, and the shared defensive cooperation between the territories of Southern Rhodesia, Northern Rhodesia, and Nyasaland. The Central African Command (CAC) was established during the Federation period (1953–1963) as part of the unified Federal Army, responsible for defence coordination, logistics, and joint operations among the three member territories. Following the Federation’s dissolution in 1963, the CAC insignia continued in use within the Southern Rhodesian Army, later the Rhodesian Army, to designate troops formerly attached to federal structures or reserve command elements. This patch is a machine-embroidered cotton badge, typical of Salisbury or Bulawayo manufacture, with distinct stitching characteristic of late Federation and early UDI-era production. The three spears design harkens back to African martial symbolism, representing the tri-territorial unity of the Federation.Due to the brief operational period and limited production, authentic examples are now rare, especially in excellent condition with original backing cloth.
