An authentic Rhodesian Army webbing belt, standard issue during the Rhodesian Bush War (1965–1980), constructed of heavy-duty olive green or khaki canvas webbing with a solid brass or alloy buckle. These belts were either locally manufactured in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) or imported via South African contractors under the Pattern 70-style webbing system, adapted from British and South African influences. The belt was designed as a central component of the soldier’s combat load-bearing equipment, supporting ammunition pouches, water bottle carriers, bayonet frogs, and utility packs. It features reinforced stitching, adjustable length, and brass or steel eyelets for modular attachments.Later Rhodesian belts often display field modifications—such as camouflage paint, wax waterproofing, or personalised stitching—reflecting the pragmatic ingenuity of soldiers in bush conditions. These belts were widely worn by Rhodesian Light Infantry (RLI), Selous Scouts, Rhodesian African Rifles (RAR), and territorial units, as well as BSAP field elements.Surviving examples in good, unmodified condition are rare, particularly those with clear wartime patina and original brass fittings.
