This is a brass scabbard former used in the manufacturing or reshaping of the leather scabbards for the British 1907 pattern bayonet, issued with the SMLE (Short Magazine Lee-Enfield) rifle. Marked clearly with manufacturing stamps including: “FORM SCABBARD PATT. ’07” MOLE BIRMINGHAM” (a noted bayonet and accessories contractor) Such formers were used in ordnance depots and military workshops to maintain or construct bayonet scabbards to regulation shape and dimension.
