An original SADF-issue R4 magazine pouch in heavy khaki canvas, designed to carry two 35-round R4/R5 magazines. The pouch features dual rear belt loops with snap fastener, and a canvas securing strap with metal buckle to keep magazines firmly in place under field conditions.
The R4 rifle, a South African adaptation of the Israeli Galil, was introduced in the late 1970s and became the standard service rifle of the SADF during the Border War. These pouches formed part of the Pattern 73 webbing system, robustly built for use in the harsh bush environments of Namibia and Angola.
