The collar badges were worn by SWATF armoured and vehicle-mounted infantry units, likely linked to the Armoured Car Regiments or reconnaissance elements using vehicles like the Eland or Ratel. The subdued finish of this set made it suitable for service dress in operational environments, particularly during patrol and garrison duties in the northern sectors of South West Africa.
