An original Sector 10 HQ Flash insignia used by South African Defence Force (SADF) personnel and occasionally attached Rhodesian servicemen during joint operations on the South West African (Namibian)–Angolan border in the late 1970s and early 1980s.This embroidered cloth flash represents an operational sector formation, one of several regional command zones established by the SADF to manage counter-insurgency operations and border security during the South African Border War. Each sector (for example, Sector 10 at Oshakati, Sector 20 at Rundu, Sector 70 at Katima Mulilo) had its own tactical insignia, typically worn on combat fatigues or bush jackets just above the unit or company flash. This particular example is believed to have been worn by members serving near the Rhodesian–Namibian frontier, where joint operations occasionally took place between Rhodesian forces and the SADF before the formal end of the Rhodesian Bush War in 1980.Constructed of embroidered cotton on canvas backing, often subdued in khaki, green, or tan, it displays a sector emblem representing command identification within South West Africa Command. Flashes of this type were field-issued, locally made, and rarely survived long-term use due to harsh environmental conditions.
