An original South African Police (SAP) Koevoet camouflage bush hat, featuring the distinctive SADF “nutria brown” and early brown/green disruptive pattern camouflage (DPM), colloquially referred to as the Koevoet bush camo. This pattern was extensively worn by counter-insurgency units operating in South West Africa (Namibia) and southern Angola during the late 1970s and 1980s.Constructed from durable cotton twill, this example features a stitched peak visor, reinforced crown seams, and internal sweatband. The camouflage is characteristic of SADF and SAP Counter-Insurgency (COIN) units — most notably Koevoet, the infamous paramilitary tracking and combat wing of the South West African Police (SWAPOL).The cap’s design provided practical fieldOrange inside for extraction and chopper observation. Original condition use, offering sun protection while maintaining a low profile in bush warfare environments. Authentic examples such as this are increasingly scarce due to their limited issue and hard use in tropical field conditions.
