An original Rhodesian Police Anti-Terrorist Unit (P.A.T.U.) cloth patch, manufactured on camouflage twill with a black embroidered paw motif and the unit title P.A.T.U. above. Worn by members of the British South Africa Police’s elite rural counter-insurgency unit, PATU teams were made up of highly trained policemen operating in small bush-tracking and rapid-reaction groups. This style of shield patch is strongly associated with the mid- to late-war period of the Rhodesian Bush War, when identities, patrol groupings, and operational detachments were increasingly standardised. Surviving examples are sought-after due to their direct association with frontline anti-terrorist operations.
