Unusual Boer War period leather ammunition carrier comprising five riveted, stud-closure cartridge pouches mounted to a reinforced leather backing strip with brass buckle and adjustment holes. Likely South African/colonial saddler-made and subsequently shortened/adapted from a longer cartridge belt or bandolier. Pouches suitable for carrying loose rifle cartridges; possibly associated with .303 British and/or 7×57 Mauser use in South Africa. Leather shows honest age patina yet remains supple, with secure riveted construction and intact closures—an uncommon, practical field-made piece.
