An exceptionally scarce British 1859/71 Pattern Royal Navy Martini-Henry Naval Cutlass Bayonet, complete with its original black leather scabbard and steel mounts. The broad yataghan-style blade is stamped "RVL 3", indicating issue to a Volunteer or Reserve naval unit, with additional inspection and acceptance marks visible on the ricasso. Developed following the adoption of the Martini-Henry rifle, these cutlass bayonets combined the role of a naval cutlass and socket bayonet, allowing them to be mounted directly onto the Martini-Henry Naval Rifle. Their limited production and naval service make them considerably rarer than standard British Army bayonets and highly desirable among collectors of Victorian naval edged weapons.
