Original Pattern 1907 bayonet scabbard mandrel, an armourer's workshop tool used during the manufacture, repair and refurbishment of the leather scabbards issued with the British Pattern 1907 bayonet. Constructed from solid steel with a tapered mandrel terminating in a rounded point and a broad rectangular striking face, the tool was inserted into the leather body of the scabbard to reform its shape, support the leather while fitting the throat or chape, and assist with riveting and repairs. The example is stamped "B.W." together with the number 180, almost certainly denoting the maker and pattern size. Genuine British military armourer's tools relating to the Pattern 1907 bayonet are seldom encountered on the collector market and are considerably rarer than the bayonets themselves.
