Original South African R4 2nd Patt conversion bayonet, manufactured by modifying an existing military bayonet for compatibility with the R4 assault rifle. This example features the distinctive black phosphate-finished spear-point blade, cylindrical polymer grip with integral locking catch, and original polymer scabbard. The conversion programme utilised existing military components to produce a limited number of bayonets suitable for the Galil-derived R4 rifle adopted by the South African Defence Force. Production is widely believed to have been restricted to approximately 200 examples, making this one of the rarest South African post-war bayonet variants. Complete examples retaining their original scabbards are exceptionally difficult to obtain and are highly regarded by collectors of SADF and South African military equipment.
